It really isn't a cost for the operating system itself. You only pay for the installation and support packages. It's possible to create a similar solution yourself. Unless RedHat relies on proprietary components, they’re prioritizing full service for business and enterprise clients. This approach is quite similar to what companies offering Dell, HP, Microsoft or other closed products provide. With RH, you don’t have to pay licensing fees. Hmm... I’m not sure what your goal is here. The Linux brand is managed by the Linux Foundation (a non-profit). Since you’re not purchasing a Linux OS directly, you don’t truly own it. In fact, you don’t really own Windows either—your Apple device ties you to it, so you do. You only pay for shipping. And when I previously ordered installation CDs, they included five free copies (postage is inexpensive). So I wouldn’t think of this as buying or paying anyone. It’s more about contributing to the development team if you’re interested in their work.
