VGA light on MSI B450 board, no GPU problems detected.
Yesterday my computer failed to start after turning it on. The red VGA indicator appeared. I've spent two hours trying fixes but still can't get it to power up. It worked perfectly the night before. I've reset CMOS, changed it, unplugged all I/O, removed most RAM sticks, swapped RAM and GPU, cleared HDD and M.2 drive, replaced the M.2 card, used only one monitor, tested different ports and connectors, re-seated everything on motherboard and power supply, adjusted RAM slots, removed extra PCI cards. No overclocking was active. The only problem is the VGA output. I'm planning to visit a store tomorrow to buy a new motherboard if needed. My current setup includes: Ryzen 5 2600x, Gigabyte RX 6600 (8GB/32GB, 3600MHz), Corsair Vengeance RGB, MSI B450 Tomahawk (non-max, updated BIOS), H100i PSU 240mm, 80+ Gold.
It might relate to the motherboard or CPU itself. If the slot on the motherboard isn’t functioning properly, it could lead to video output issues. And if the CPU’s PCIe lanes are malfunctioning, that could also prevent video from working. This is puzzling because you tested the GPU in a different slot and it still didn’t work, even though the slot wasn’t directly connected to the CPU. I’m wondering if the CPU’s internal IO die is failing, which would hinder its ability to communicate with any PCIe devices, including the chipset. If that’s the case, I’d expect more than just the GPU failing at startup. Still, it could be the first noticeable sign. Overall, if the new motherboard doesn’t function, switching to a different CPU might be a good idea.
Hey there, I discovered the fix. I thought about updating the board via USB directly. Just press the button on the back, download the file from the official site, rename it to MIS.ROM, connect the memory to the correct USB port, and turn it on when prompted. It should handle everything by itself until it shuts down. Cheers from Colombia!
