Very light overwatch gameplay on a GTX 1080 graphics card
Hey there! Here’s a refreshed version of your message:
What’s going on? I’m running an i5-4670K with these specs: 4.2 GHz, 8GB RAM, 2x4 DDR3 1600, 7GB SSD, ASUS Z97-A, Samsung EVO 850, and a 250GB SSD. My GPU is an EVGA GTX 970 (no overclocking). I’ve been using low settings, no anti-aliasing, 75% resolution at 1080p, and the NVIDIA control panel prioritizes performance over visual quality.
I usually see low frame rates around 170-190 FPS, but when things are calm, I hit 300 FPS or more. Sometimes it drops below 120 FPS during intense moments. I’ve always thought RAM speed has little impact on gaming, but I’ve noticed otherwise—especially with games like Overwatch where higher FPS matters a lot.
I tried boosting my DDR3 to 2133 MHz and saw a big jump in performance, from about 120 to 150 FPS dips and an average of 170-190. Then I upgraded to 2400C11 Corsair Vengeance Pro, which pushed my minimums up to 190-200 and my average to 240+. After more testing, I overclocked the DDR3 to 2666C12 and still got solid numbers—often above 280 FPS.
I’m not sure if these results apply to DDR4, but it seems RAM speed really does matter for high frame rates.
