Fun is personal and varies from person to person. I acknowledge his feedback and recognize it as a valid consideration, particularly with the other elements you've highlighted in the game. I’m not arguing that the setting excuses the absence of weapons, but rather that it aligns with what would have been typical during that era. This perspective doesn’t diminish my view of the game; it just reflects a different interpretation.
I think TB meant 'far cry unity' because Unity marked a step backward in gameplay. It also felt like Assassin's Creed was becoming more like a rehashed series, similar to CoD, while Primal follows the same trend. Honestly, I believe he drew comparisons between Primal and Unity mainly due to performance, which is now outdated. Regarding consoles launching well, I don’t have much to say. I can’t fault TB for being a bit critical of Primal since it comes from Ubisoft. Ultimately, it’s his perspective, and I generally agree with most of his comments.
Now that you noted it, TB might have drawn parallels between Unity and Primal in terms of gameplay and performance. But I still believe that’s an overreach and doesn’t quite fit here. The remark “I can't blame TB for being a bit critical of Primal because it's from Ubisoft” carries several meanings. It highlights the many potential implications involved, right? Personally, I don’t see any reason for him to be “fussy” about Primal just because it comes from Ubisoft. Treat it as a fresh title and set aside any bias toward Ubisoft. That’s how I interpret it, even though I understand your point.
Check out the latest: Nvidia has released updated drivers for Primal.
I find the visual style and theme appealing enough to consider trying it out, but I’m unlikely to pay close attention unless it’s significantly cheaper. Probably not even half the price. I think I got Far Cry 3 on sale for around $7.49, which is similar to my experience with Primal. -- Idiotech shared a video discussing post-launch performance and had a better impression than TB did. Still, it seems to run somewhat poorly; overall it’s what Ubisoft typically releases. Recognizing his own critiques came from pre-launch code, so TB mentioned he’d follow up later. It might be smart to watch his future video before committing.
It's more about caution than bias when considering a developer known for creating Unity and advocating for PC gaming. You're correct to focus on that. Primal isn't the sole significant title Ubisoft has this year either.
Previous driver tests on my machine showed: Min 49fps, Average 64fps, Max 77fps. The difference isn't huge compared to the first patch. Actually, it's almost identical. The update mainly aimed to include SLI support. Similarly, AMD released Crimson 16.2.1 and also added CF support. I'm comfortable with these settings (ultra with SMAA). The performance feels smooth and consistent.
