Verifying CPU and case fan configuration
Verifying CPU and case fan configuration
Hi. I have these components: a CPU air cooler with two fans, a fan splitter that came with them, two fans from my case, three RGB fans without a splitter, and a motherboard with header slots for CPU fan, CPU opt, and a sys_fan header near the back. I’m wondering if I can rearrange everything.
I want to remove the splitter from the CPU fans and connect two of the case fans to it, then connect it to sys_fan1 at the rear as exhaust fans. Then connect both CPU fans to cpu_fan and cpu_opt. The three RGB fans should go into sys_fan2A, sys_fan2B, and sys_fan3_pump.
I’m okay with the system fan 3 pump running at full speed continuously. My cooler came with an adapter for a third fan, so do I need another splitter? Should I also connect two CPU fans to cpu_fan and the third fan to cpu_opt?
consider your options carefully. Keep the splitter on the cooler—it's a budget-friendly choice. Did you purchase the three individual fans, or do the three packs include a hub? Avoid connecting CPU fans directly to the pump header unless the documentation allows it; it seems your board can double as a fan header. You likely have enough headers available. Refer to the image below for placement guidance. You should be able to access all connections without removing the motherboard from the case: 1 x CPU fan header, 1 x water cooling CPU fan header, 3 x system fan headers, and 1 x system fan/water cooling pump header (see spec sheet).
Thanks for your reply. This set includes three fans working together: https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/p/case-fan...9050137-ww Each fan comes with two connectors—one for the motherboard header and another for the hub. The hub itself lacks any header ports. I only have access to a couple of instruction sheets. They didn’t clarify much about how to attach the fans.
P.S. I wasn’t considering linking the CPU cooler fans to the pump fan at the bottom. My idea was to connect one to the CPU fan and another to the CPU cooler. Did you mean those headers are for the pump fan? The only fan with a splitter was the RGB ones. (Though it’s possible the others had a splitter too, but I lost track amidst all the manuals and packaging. Probably not.)
Using the top fan header is tricky due to the case ceiling, the large heatsink, other heatsinks, the CPU cooler, and the CPU power connectors. Removing the ceiling isn’t an option—only the mesh filter can be taken off. My case is a 4000D airflow model.
