My 2700X performs better than my 8700K in certain tasks, especially when it comes to heavy threads like WinRar unpacking and similar work. Stock gaming runs smoothly at 1080P, while the 8700K excels with overclocking and might still outperform a 3700X if it's running well. It's a tough choice between the two—appreciate the 2700X's thread count, but also its per-core performance and clock speed. I’d love to combine them into a powerful hybrid CPU.
Always has a solid case for adding more PCs. Just require additional desktop capacity.
I've seen this setup firsthand. The 8700K handles 5.0Ghz at 1.25V with a 120mm AIO, using around 110W when under load. The 3600 runs at 4.0Ghz and 1.12V with a compact 80mm SFF cooler, drawing about 57W during load. In multicore tasks it's roughly 10-12% faster but consumes nearly double the power. If efficiency matters, a Zen 2 would be ideal. For maximum single-core performance, the 8700K is better. A Zen 2 CPU would only lag a few percent compared to the best Intel chips.
