working on a compact (almost xb series) PC setup, I'm struggling to pick the right CPU. You've got two choices here: one link points to a 5600G and the other to a 3400G with Vega 11. Before you commit, think about what you need—small size, portability for travel, and enough power for video editing and school work. Also, you mentioned it's not a full build yet, so you're still deciding. A console would be easier, but you're looking for something more flexible. What makes it worthwhile?

I own a Ryzen 3700U paired with a Vega 8. First thing to consider, what kinds of games are you aiming to play? From 2005 to 2013 it should work just fine. Newer titles such as Dirt Rally will feel sluggish at around 60 FPS or less. Recent releases like Zenless Zone Zero perform poorly and I’d rather enjoy them on my phone. If you’re upgrading to an APU for gaming, stick to the newest Ryzen chips with a 780M equivalent GPU. I wouldn’t suggest anything else for new games. If you’re forced, go with the 5600G. AMD’s naming is odd—lower Vega numbers are better, of course normal GPUs are the opposite, meaning bigger is better.

I mainly play esports games such as Rocket League and Valorant, so I should be okay there. The newer RYZEN titles would cost a lot more than my budget, which means it’s not an option.

5600G performs better than the 5000 series in CPU terms, which suggests it might also excel in GPU performance. I wonder if the iGPU handles portability well—would you prefer a compact design?

Popular titles such as LoL, Dota, Rocket League offer smooth 60fps performance. Games like CS2, Valorant, and R6S generally manage to hit 70+ fps, while shooters under 90fps can be tough to enjoy.

I really tried, but I didn’t manage much. I should have noted that I was going to overclock the CPU, but only slightly.

I once owned a Vega from a long time ago. I know it won't function now since it was made by Chevrolet in 1973. Thank you for the memories; they mean a lot. Those were the days... Good luck and take care.

You have some options, but the G processors remain fairly restricted. What you can do is focus on high-speed memory with short access times to boost frame rates and improve the APU's performance, similar to using 3600MHz CL14 RAM sticks.

Are you working with a very limited budget? There are affordable mini PCs featuring the fast Radeon 780M iGPU, offering roughly double the speed and improved Zen 4 performance. Look at MinisForum for real-world uses. If you can afford it, the RTX 4060 has a low-profile option that outperforms most high-end GPUs and fits into compact systems.
