Your MacBook Pro is displaying varying download speeds compared to your iPad. The differences likely stem from network conditions, device settings, or hardware performance. Since you're using the same server for tests, the issue may relate to your connection stability or bandwidth allocation. Check your internet plan and router performance for consistency.

It might have simply been a matter of hardware and optimization.

It's concerning how much your internet speed changes. Your MacBook sometimes runs so slow it can't even play a 240p video.

I don’t know much about MacBooks, but I’m not sure if the drivers are installed. Probably updating them could help with any wireless issues.

Check if the devices share the same network and whether they both rely on WiFi. Also, confirm if they're linked to identical 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz access points.

Everyone is staying at home, so the servers will eventually face delays.

Start with speedtest.com, it's unreliable and not recommended. Fast.com is a better choice instead. 2nd, your device has full 3x3 MIMO capability and should perform better in regular Wi-Fi speeds. You can run iperf to check actual performance if you want. Likely the issue is network congestion—whether from crowded areas or heavy usage, possibly due to ISP strain from activities like watching Tiger King while social distancing.

It checks which gadgets perform better based on your connection, not which one is faster.

It shouldn’t happen. I genuinely believe it’s just a chance occurrence.
