Received the new CPU and sometimes comments mention V-cache temperature reaching certain values. Is V-cache just another cache inside the CPU, or does it have its own heat management? It’s separate from the main CPU core temperature. Various programs can monitor V-cache temperature, and yes, thermal throttling for it can occur at high temperatures too.

The 5800X begins throttling around 90°C. I don’t have details on reading the v-cache temp, but since it sits over a heat source that also uses the cache, it makes sense why this could happen.

It has a packed cache, which means it’ll warm up faster than the non-stacked version. Packing more components into one unit creates more heat, and it’s straightforward. You should handle a solid 105W+ cooler instead of going for the Hyper 212.

X3D stays cool enough for me, no matter the L3 temperatures. I’d rather focus on the CCD temperature or Tctl/Tdie than worry about those numbers.
