Hello everyone, I recently purchased new components—motherboard, CPU, and RAM—for my PC. After assembling everything, I connected my Win7 HDD, but it won’t boot. The issue is the motherboard doesn’t support IDE drives, and even if it boots, the mouse and keyboard are non-functional because Ryzen doesn’t work well with Windows 7. Questions: 1) Should I try inserting the HDD into my old system? Would using the method to enable AHCI in Windows 7 without reinstall help me get the drive up when I put it back into the new Ryzen setup? 2) I found some online guides suggesting using an installer from ASRock to make a boot disk. Do you think there’s a simpler way to add them without going through that process? Thanks all!
I’d prefer to use the Windows 7 license key to enable a copy, but since Windows 10 no longer supports it, it poses a security threat to keep using it.
I understand your perspective. It seems unclear whether the choice is driven by nostalgia or practical needs. Using Windows 10 offers better driver support and game performance, while sticking with Windows 7 would require replacing many devices at a higher cost. Only if you're a professional in a niche field might it make sense to keep using Windows 7.
I've learned from past experiences here. To start, assuming the boot problem is resolved and you're inside, you can use a PS2 keyboard and mouse for control since USB drivers aren't needed. For future reference, save the AMD chipset installer to your boot drive or another accessible location. If remote access is set up and the network is detected, that's another method to take over the system. Keep in mind that with a Ryzen 3000, some USB3 ports may not work under Windows 7, but other ports still function with the original chipset. Some users have even managed to modify driver files to force installation, though I haven't tried that myself.
Windows 10's scheduling features still lag behind Ryzen Linux, especially in apps with many threads.
Various boards typically include USB 2.0 ports, usually needing a front panel connector for mouse and keyboard. Some models support Legacy USB, though performance may vary. For the B450M-A, I previously used USB 3.0 drivers from a B350 board that supported W7 drivers. Now, updated driver support exists directly for the B450M-A, eliminating the need for the older B350 driver. It’s hard to give precise advice without knowing your specific board.
Hello once more, thanks for your responses. Regarding suggestions to switch to Windows 10, I currently use TIT at work and don’t really enjoy it. Win7 works better for me, so unless there’s a strong need to upgrade, I’d rather keep using it. I’ve also ordered a PS2 adapter that should be delivered tomorrow, which should help install the required drivers. @shrimpbrime The motherboard is an AsRock B450m Pro4-F.
