They’ve been consuming a lot of my CPU lately. I checked online for clues and discovered which svchost might be the issue. After some research, I found the answer but don’t know how to use it right now. I searched further but didn’t find anything useful, so I’m reaching out here.

Many viruses use deceptive names, so I perform thorough virus checks with Avast (including a boot-time scan and full scan) and Microsoft security essentials, plus Malwarebytes. Sometimes it's just Windows cleaning up itself—like svchost consuming resources but eventually disappearing. It’s usually Windows handling the cleanup.

svchost.exe is often taken over by malware for harmful activities. Some viruses operate under this name as well, making removal difficult. Protect your files by backing up data and performing a clean erase before reinstalling.

It's been busy all summer, so it's likely a virus, even with all the scans I've done.

Try reinstalling Windows. If needed, I can help locate your product key after you download it online and print it.

Reach out to Windows support; it could also appear in your orders or linked accounts. Probably you're certain it's legitimate, so I won’t mention it.

Begin at the start and select "Computer" then go to properties. The settings are located at the bottom under the Windows activation area.

It looks like you're facing a lot of trouble, so maybe I should reset Windows to the version stored on your old disc.

Yes, that's the product ID you're looking for. It should match the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.

I was considering purchasing an SSD, which could be a great deal for you.
