I have a laptop running the Killer AX1650x Networking Card with Wi-Fi 6 enabled and a Samsung Galaxy S10 also supporting Wi-Fi 6. Can I use this fast connection to send files straight between my PC and phone without going through my router, which only supports Wi-Fi 5? I’m open to using a USB cable but see an opportunity to reduce cables on my desk. Also, when I connect my phone to the laptop via Windows 10 hotspot, it uses the AX connection—could I just rely on a regular Wi-Fi app while connected to the PC’s hotspot?

Activate your phone’s WiFi hotspot and install an FTP client or file transfer app. The process is straightforward.

It's frustrating not considering something. Nice thought!

Sadly the S10 only works with WiFi 5 in Hotspot mode, I tested it myself and was quite let down. I’m not sure why it didn’t connect properly with my laptop either. On the other hand, I just tried the WiFi FTP Server now, using my phone on regular WiFi—it was significantly quicker than USB. Still, when transferring photos or videos from my phone, I usually rely on PhotoSync to a shared folder on Windows (actually Linux SAMBA).
