Utilize a Range Extender to boost WiFi performance.
Throughout the apartment, my connection speed according to Ookla is 50 Mbps over WiFi. When I connect my laptop via the cat5 cable to the router, it roughly doubles to around 100 Mbps. If I use the range extender with Ethernet ports and connect my laptop to one of those ports, would the download speed reach approximately 100 Mbps? The model I’m considering is the one linked here: https://www.zyxel.com/us/en/products_ser...-X1/photos
the range extender improves coverage, yet if the modem has poor wifi or broadcasts on a busy channel it may not assist. try using a smartphone wifi analyzer to check local network usage and see which channels are active. if possible, switch the modem’s channel to a less crowded one before purchasing any device.
In short, you're asking if it's better to use this in Client Mode. You'll still be restricted to 50Mbps since the Extender depends on your router's WiFi. Instead, consider using an Ethernet Switch to extend your wired connection. While it isn't a switch's original purpose, it can function. However, the setup might not be ideal based on your home or apartment layout.
Thanks for the suggestion, it was just what I needed to understand. This really sparked my thoughts. I checked the cable in my office and noticed it was running behind the wall, entering through another part of it. I decided to move my modem and router there instead. Now my work laptop connects directly to the router, which is completely free—unless I later need to pay for extension cables to place things on the desk. EDIT: The Wi-Fi signal has improved a lot since the coax cable is now just a short meter away.
