I'm still young enough to start flipping used PCs and making some extra cash. My latest project involves my dad's old HP Pavilion, which he gifted me (model p7-1287c). I purchased a 1TB HDD for $19, a GTX 660 for $25, and a Logisys PSU for $24. From a hardware standpoint, it seems there shouldn't be any compatibility issues, but I couldn't boot and ended up stuck on the splash screen. Some people said a legacy card was required, which is why I got the GTX 660 initially. However, it didn't work out. It looks like HP added proprietary firmware to stop users from upgrading, so I plan to replace the existing components with a budget Optiplex 790 motherboard and a cooler. For reselling, a case switch could help, but I want to avoid unnecessary expenses. Are there any risks or conflicts I should be aware of? As long as the standard connectors are present, firmware shouldn't interfere.

Dell is recognized for its unique connectors, and it's possible HP might follow suit.

Maybe it's best to stick with the original wording.
