He can use Windows Format to try, but it might not work if the drive is corrupted or if the system needs more tools. The extra Windows 7 disc could help if needed.

Insert the CD into the computer and adjust the boot sequence in the BIOS so the CD drive starts first. Proceed with the Windows installation until you reach the specified section, then complete the setup.
