Using two GPUs for video editing/exporting?
I already own an RTX 5070 GPU. Considering the significant price increases for older cards, I’m thinking about adding another GPU to boost rendering and export speeds for 8K videos. I’m weighing a choice between a RTX 5070Ti or a different series model. Would using two GPUs of the same generation cause problems with software like Premiere Pro or Resolve when running them together? I’m trying to avoid driver issues by getting all Nvidia cards, so I want to know if I need two identical GPUs or if a higher-end one like the 5070Ti would work. I’m also unsure whether having two identical GPUs is necessary for the software to handle rendering efficiently. My plan is likely to place the 5070Ti in the x16 slot and the 5070 in the x4 slot.
SLI technology is no longer viable. It's smarter to invest in the strongest GPU your budget allows. Even if you managed to pair two GPUs, you'd still need a matching series—like two RTX 5070Ti cards and compatible drivers—which isn't feasible for the latter. Plus, you'd require an extremely powerful PSU. You can find more details here; question about what happened with SLI dual cards.
As mentioned earlier, Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve are built to work with multiple GPUs. I already have two power supplies and a case that accommodates two. A long power cable for the second circuit is needed. Therefore, technically I could only add another RTX 5070 if it fits in an x4 PCIe slot.
