I've been using my i9 9900k for rendering with SheepIt. People say heavy core usage over long periods can harm the CPU's longevity, so I've lowered its clock speed to 4.2ghz instead of the default turbo of 4.7ghz. The temperatures stay around 65-67°C. I'm curious if running at these cooler temps will really affect how long the CPU lasts.

It should work well as long as the temperature remains manageable; using an AIO liquid cooler is recommended, and a custom loop would be ideal.

It's okay. Processors can operate at full capacity over long periods without problems. Those temperatures are also acceptable.

It should work well, 4.2 should likely handle a 1v 65W setup if you want to fine-tune it more.

I believe 4.5-4.7 at optimized voltage works, probably 4.2 is too much, but if you run it nonstop, go for what feels right. Under 75°C is always safe.

Reduce the temperature and the processor will function properly within its expected lifespan. Avoid lowering the clock speed unless you're staying below its maximum limit.

The only risk comes from combining high voltage, high temperatures, and heavy loadline calibration. The CPU automatically limits performance for a valid reason. As long as you don’t exceed safe limits and aren’t overclocking, everything should be okay. Remember, excessive current damages silicon, and pairing it with high heat speeds up the process. Staying within recommended amperage and keeping voltage and temperatures low keeps things stable. Voltage alone won’t harm the chip unless it hits a critical threshold—this depends heavily on whether Intel’s loadline calibration was surpassed. Above certain voltages, even small currents can cause lasting damage by breaking down the oxide layers. This is why some enthusiasts push LN2 baths above 1.65V, risking permanent failure.

You might push that item beyond its thermal threshold for decades using the stock clocks. Semiconductors aren't as delicate as some think.
