Using rsync on home directory?

I'm considering switching to KDE and want to carry all my app settings with me. Ideally I'd just paste them in, but I have Mate which isn't ideal. I thought I could simply copy .mozilli and the app folders from .config, but Caja always freezes when I try to copy large files.

Certainly, from the root level you can transfer any files using rsync.

Install KDE directly through your package manager. Choose KDE as the desktop environment when logging in. For backing up your home folder, use Timeshift.

Remove Mate completely and set up KDE Simple. You won’t lose any of your programs or files. At the end, it’s just a small change.

I considered doing it before but didn’t find the right path to KDE. There’s no mention of SDDM in the instructions. Removing mTE should also remove the network manager, as expected. This matches the guide on the site you shared.

I can't provide a screenshot directly, but I can describe what will be uninstalled based on your instructions. Using the -Runs flag with the preferred flags will list the items to be removed from the command line.
