I want to play on PC without paying again every time so I can pilot a ship between planets and also between star systems, maybe even have people on board to trade goods or move things around. Ideally it should be multiplayer but that's not needed at all. The game could either cost nothing to buy or pay a small one-time fee like $30 for Steam; if it is on sale then I can wait a few months to get it back in stock if they keep doing it. If there are two different versions, the price difference shouldn't be huge: if you skip paying once you might miss out on many missions or lose more than half of what you make in-game money. Thanks a lot! Update: Please add "s/cargo" to do trading or transportation.

Elite dangerous is cheap and has both a single player as well as multi. No subscription, one big dlc that changes stuff but isn't really necessary and lots of cosmetic DLC if you want to support the game further. https://steamdb.info/app/359320/

While I wait for the price to come down, I found several space games with a Windows version. Their newest releases are from 2020 or later: Vega Strike, Oolite, Adanaxis, and Pioneer. Have you tried any of these? Do you know anything about them?
