Hey there! Welcome to the community. I’m new here and wanted to share my concern about my monitor suddenly going black and freezing while using Premiere Pro or After Effects. I’ve been working on some intermediate tasks in those apps and have a few plugins installed. I’ve already tried several fixes:
- Increased RAM from 16GB to 32GB
- Swapped the stock CPU fans for a thermalright dual tower
- Replaced the GPU (1660 Super) and ensured I was using the dedicated graphics card
- Updated the PSU from MSI B550 to Corsair CX750, removing everything except RAM and CPU
- Reinstalled DDU and switched the driver from game-ready to studio mode
Despite these changes, the screen still freezes or turns black. I also re-installed Windows 10 once to clear things up, but the issue persists. I’m a casual gamer, so I thought I’d check basic settings or try something else.
Anyone have an idea why this might be happening? I’m also curious about storage—do you think it matters if I have extra drives or a fast SSD? And what about the games I play? I usually run RDR2, GTA V, Dark Souls, and some FPS titles without issues.

Your PC continues operating even when the monitor goes dark. Audio remains functional after the screen turns off. You may have encountered a driver issue or a software conflict, possibly related to Adobe applications. The reliability of your Adobe software could be a factor. You can test with an older GPU driver version or try another software update.
Thanks for your reply! Most of the time it stays on, just losing the display and freezing. With headphones, the audio remains but the screen freezes and turns black. Using speakers connected via display port, the sound disappears when the screen shuts down. Earlier, a driver update worked fine, but now I’m unsure which one to try next. For Adobe apps, I’m not sure either and haven’t tested other platforms yet. Maybe starting with uninstalling the graphics drivers would be a good first step, and then check if the issue persists.

This time I tried disabling them one by one—plugging in the two monitors, then just the PC, without using upgrades or direct power—and it still happens. I’m guessing the GPU might be the issue, even though its temp stays around 50-60 and never hits 70. I thought a software update would help, but I’m still hoping you can assist!
