Hey everyone, I recently installed a GT 1030 into my build (5950x, 3070ti) to add more monitor outputs since I needed beyond four. But now my PC feels much slower—Windows animations lag, games drop in FPS, and moving windows seems especially sluggish. I also see the GPU hovering around 50% usage, which matches what I learned about using Desktop Window Manager. I’m curious if there’s a way to improve performance or if something is wrong with my setup. Thanks!
I'm handling a build nearly identical in processing strength. My K620 handles continuous text output while the other stays mostly idle. The A4500 powers all my visual displays—video, images, CAD, games, etc. Identify the screens you use least and move them to the 1030. Ensure your main monitor operates at full refresh rate. Verify hardware acceleration is turned off for Discord—it doesn’t noticeably impact performance whether it’s on or off. Also confirm it’s enabled for Windows. Is the slowness only during transfers between monitors or consistently?
Thanks for the advice. It still feels slow, even when I just open the Start menu on my main screen linked to the 3070ti. The performance is clearly affected.
I now understood how simple things can be, but I doubt I’d have grasped it without @Mel0n. Thanks for keeping the wallpaper engine running so I could see a constantly shifting background on both monitors of my 1030. Once I stopped it, everything became static and usage fell to zero.
