I possess an MSI B550m Mortar (Non-Wifi) and this is my first experience with a motherboard that uses a BIOS flashing button. My concern is whether I can use a flash drive larger than 8GB for the update process. Some advise against it or warn of potential damage, while others say it's safe. It would be helpful to get some guidance. Additionally, should I upgrade my BIOS directly to the newest version, skipping from ver. 7C94v15 to 7C94v17 and jumping over 7C94v16? Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

It seems the main concern is updating the BIOS without a CPU on the board, which could be unstable. Using an OS utility would likely be safer. Upgrading to the latest version works best if it matches your existing CPU.

The document you access for downloading the BIOS indicates whether intermediate actions are necessary, which can vary with AMD. Concerning flash drive size, it appears to be a straightforward situation—either it functions perfectly or it is completely unrecognized, without any partial scenarios.

It's actually more secure. The updates don't require the bios to refresh, which means you can still improve the bios even after a reset. If it gets damaged, you can still repair it.

The CPU is already set up. Appreciate the details about BIOS updates. Thank you for the extra clarification and confirmation about the flash drive size. Just to confirm—those YouTube videos seem to warn that a failed update can end the game, whether you're doing it through the OS or via the BIOS update interface on the system's storage?

The bios must be properly installed to access the OS. Any errors during installation require a full reboot. Otherwise, you may need to replace the chip or use a flashing tool. Often, if the board has an update option, you can apply a corrupted bios.

Sure, clarify your concern. Do all parts such as RAM and GPU have to be removed from the board prior to flashing?
