I previously used a Gen3 riser with my 6700xt. I adjusted the BIOS to Gen3 settings and it functioned properly. After replacing the cooler, I didn’t reassemble the PC thoroughly and it operated without a riser for several months. When I attempted to rebuild it again with the riser, it failed and entered an infinite bootloop with no video display. The PSU fan initially speeds up briefly before slowing down repeatedly. I had already set the BIOS to Gen3 before installing the riser. If possible, fixing this without removing the GPU would be better, as it’s difficult to get the GPU in and out of the case.

Could the issue lie with the riser cable itself? Try using it on a different computer to see if it functions properly.

Lack a second machine for testing the cable. The male connector looks odd—it seems designed just for ITX boards, and I only own one.

I'm uncertain about this, I've never worked with a riser cable before, but it could make sense to remove it.

We really don’t have much to fix here. Because it functions without the cable, that’s the first thing to check. Are you sure you can’t ask a friend to test the cable on their PC? You wouldn’t want to purchase a new cable unless you’re certain it’s the issue. If the replacement gives the same result, it’s likely a waste of money. You might just need to try rebuilding without the riser cable...

The situation requires a riser to function properly, and the PC has been verified to operate without it. I don’t have anyone with an ITX build to evaluate the riser, so yes. I’m suspecting some unusual short circuit. I observed an odd “crunchy” noise when connecting the GPU to the riser. It might be due to dirty contacts or something else, but the sounds occur even when the PCI pins lightly touch the riser slot. If no other options exist, I’ll likely have to replace the case.

Yes, if you disassemble it at any point we can receive photos of the pins and contacts on the riser and motherboard. They may be damaged or corroded, which could be indicated by the grinding noise.
