Hello, I'm seeking some guidance before purchasing new RAM. I currently have two 4GB sticks (2x4GB) from Crucial Technology, DDR3, 4096 MB, PC3-12800 at 800 MHz, part number CT51264BA160B.C16F. I'm aiming for a budget-friendly upgrade since my current situation requires it. Ideally, I'd like 32GB total—two 16GB units, the fastest option my motherboard and BIOS support. The BIOS I have is from American Megatrends, version 3602 dated March 23, 2018. Any recommendations for good value? Would it be possible to buy the first 16GB now and add another later, without affecting the existing 8GB RAM? Thanks in advance, Ben.

You can store the 4x2 kit in its two slots and insert an 8x2 kit at 1600mhz to occupy all four slots. The additional kit will cost around 80 euros, but verify it operates at the required frequency.

The 1600MHz speed isn’t necessarily the maximum for your setup. Your part checker suggests a faster option, so it might be worth considering that choice.

I discovered this for my MB and notice they measure faster than 1600mhz, so if I can, should I or not? https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LG...160427.pdf

B85 doesn't accept 16GB modules. Each module supports up to 8GB and operates at 1600 MT/s. Your current setup of two 4GB modules delivers 1600 MT/s. The specs indicate 800 MHz provides that speed. For higher performance, consider a 16GB kit with two 8GB modules (1600C11) as shown on the link provided. Faster chips will run at the same 1600 MT/s but are limited to downclocked speeds.
