I'm working with a 10-year-old Dell T1700 that's been upgraded to W10. It includes an NVIDIA Quadro K620 (2GB) and an i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz, which has performed adequately for the limited photo and video editing tasks I do. I don't play games but frequently run simulation software that demands high power and CPU usage. I'm considering a new desktop build with i7 or AMD 7000 series processors. I'm wondering if it's possible to incorporate the K620 into this new setup?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Driver Information | NVIDIA
Get the <dd~LanguageName> <dd~Name> for <dd~OSName> systems. Available <dd~ReleaseDateTime>.

If you mention Windows 11 support, it should work well with your GPU upgrade.

You might consider it, but unless you require GPU power for a specific purpose, the integrated graphics on the 7000 series CPUs offer comparable performance (about 10% lower) and greater efficiency.

The reason I'm inquiring is that some comparisons on a few pages indicate the K620 offers better graphics performance than the built-in UHD 770. So there aren't any truly exceptional figures here. Probably, I should run my own tests with the UHD 770 and then the K620. If I find it slower with the UHD, I'll think about upgrading to a more powerful discrete card in the $200 range (GeForce RTX 3050).

In terms of performance, the onboard graphics don't significantly improve—they're only slightly better. However, they offer more capabilities, such as HEVC and H265 support, which can enhance compatibility with newer media. Around 200 options exist, but the RTX 3050 isn't among the top choices.

Not familiar with the details, how would you select a card under $200 with 6GB 96-bit GDDR6, PCIe, supporting HVEC, H265, and compatible with your current setup including the Quadro K620, i5-4590, and 16GB RAM?

Essentially, almost every contemporary GPU would surpass those in terms of capability.
