Using a GPU for rendering in 3DS Max improves performance and speed.
I've been experimenting with 3ds Max recently, and I received a scene from a friend. I tested various render settings and noticed it relies solely on the CPU. My IT instincts suggested it could run much faster if it utilized my GPU's capabilities. With an AMD 7870 and some optimization, anyone know how to switch rendering to use the GPU instead of the CPU? Also, why doesn't it automatically do this by default? I tried LuxRender but it didn't work out.
It uses an NVIDIA driven engine that doesn’t rely on the graphics card for basic performance since it handles simpler tasks smoothly. 3ds Max tends to be more advanced in this regard.
Typical 3D visualizations avoid AMD graphics cards since their openCl compiler isn't compatible.
