Uses built-in GPU over separate one

You discovered your Inspiron 660 isn’t automatically using the dedicated GPU. It switches to the built-in graphics. In Windows, the card reported an error and you installed drivers, which worked. Later, it only activates when booting into Windows, skipping the BIOS menu and loading screen. It seems a VBios or BIOS issue might be involved. Any advice?

The display cable connects to the GPU or the motherboard, depending on your setup.

Connecting your monitor to the motherboard means it will automatically use the integrated GPU. Plugging in a separate dedicated GPU allows it to utilize that specific hardware instead.

Using just the display cable doesn’t show BIOS or the Windows loading screen. During startup, it appears briefly at the sign-in window, but before driver installation it was completely invisible.

It's unusual. I've usually accessed the bios without issues when connected to my graphics card. Perhaps the card is quite outdated and lacks current support?

Bios should include a graphics output priority choice for PCI configuration.
