Hey everyone, I'm getting ready to assemble my first PC and already have all the components except the motherboard. I've seen many people on YouTube suggesting a BIOS update for the Ryzen 5000 series. I'm considering the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2 for my board. Should I update the BIOS so the CPU works, or can the factory settings handle it? The website mentions "Ryzen 7 5800X3D Support," which implies that without an update, the system might not boot properly. Thanks for all the advice!

You'll need BIOS version 10 for the 5800X3d. It's probably already installed, but if not, you can upgrade using a USB drive without a CPU. Either way works fine.

You can look at the system information by checking the device details or using built-in commands that show the software version without restarting the device.

You can look up the motherboard version by checking the BIOS/UEFI settings or using manufacturer tools before powering on the PC. Some systems allow accessing system info through command lines or diagnostic utilities without needing to boot.

Obtain a board featuring bios flashback and set up a USB drive. Probably fine with a brand new board.

The chip remains functional even in older BIOS versions, but performance drops to 3700 unless a matching BIOS is installed.
