Used to charge laptops via USB C.
Hi,
I'm considering purchasing a new laptop and USB C charging is something I'm interested in because it enhances portability. While I can find USB chargers everywhere, I've read mixed information about USB C charging technology. Some sources mention that certain HP models or other brands only support their proprietary USB C chargers, and there are reports about USB C ports being prone to damage. I'm looking for advice from others who have experience with USB C charging laptops and would appreciate any recommendations. Should I opt for a laptop with just one USB C PD port or is having at least two a reasonable minimum?
I've used several Dell XPS laptops with USB C charging and never faced any problems.
Any device will work as long as its power meets the laptop's requirements and is PD certified (at least with Dell).
I'd prefer a laptop with just one C port since I don't frequently connect other C devices.
USB C/TB hubs that support PD are also affordable for desk use.
I'm pleased you brought up Dell, as I've been checking out the Dell 14" 5425 on eBay lately.
I've faced issues with Dell's exclusive charger support in the past, which is a positive update.
I also own a Dell XPS laptop that connects via USB-C PD from one of my chargers. Another ASUS model supports USB-C power input, though it's mainly for backup when the main power source isn't available.
I believe devices needing their own charger should still qualify as USB-C PD if they support it and provide sufficient power.
I'm using an acer 314 chromebook and haven't experienced any problems with my usb charging.
