While experimenting with the AI suite from ASUS, I noticed the auto tune overclocking option. I enabled it, and my performance dropped significantly. Even without gaming, I observed a clear decline in responsiveness. A few days later, when I ran some games, I experienced heavy lag and a sharp drop in frame rates.

I suspected the issue was related to the 'power saving mode' in the software, so I turned it off. That didn’t resolve anything. I then looked into the AI suite and found discussions about how overclocking tools often cause more harm than help, conflicting with BIOS configurations. Someone suggested removing the AI suite and resetting the BIOS settings to 'Optimized Defaults'. I tried that, and initially the system felt smoother during normal OS tasks.

However, game performance remained poor. I’m currently getting around 10 FPS in ESO (in a typical, not heavily loaded environment). The GPU is at 50% and the CPU at 10%.

I also read that such overclocking tools might interfere with NVIDIA drivers. I used the Display Driver Uninstaller to reinstall all video card drivers from the ground up, but the problem persisted. I even attempted overclocking through the BIOS this time, but the improvement was minimal.

Here’s my rig (built about a year ago): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LvKPzM. It managed Witcher 3 at 60fps on ultra settings, which is unusual given what I’m seeing now—even with Sims 4, I still face significant lag when playing with my sister.

Please help me out—I’m really struggling. Also, please keep this as a warning: overclocking software is not worth it; stick to the BIOS settings.

Your parts list indicates a single 500G 850EVO SSD HDD is present, correct? Is that the sole HDD currently running?

Your parts list indicates just one 500G 850EVO SSD HDD is present—are you certain that's the sole HDD you're using? This question arises because you might be planning to fill up that 500G drive, which isn't a full 500G but likely around 450G. As you approach the maximum capacity, performance will noticeably decrease.

Auto software overclocking is problematic since it can raise voltages beyond what you'd normally use manually.

There could be several reasons behind this issue, but first check your HDD's available space on your computer.

Actually, I only have 19.4 gigabytes remaining. Would adding more storage impact things like frame rates?

Thanks for the response!

Yeah actually. I only have 19.4 gigs left. Would storage make such a drastic change though? Also, I've been thinking about expanding my storage with an HDD, would that affect framerates too?
Thanks for the reply!
If you don't have enough free space it will be forced to create a page file, unless that's been disabled?
It may help to see if you have any apps like games you've past played that you could remove and get some free space some of the games I play have a massive amount of stored data.
That would help IF?, that is your problem, I have a 1T Samsung M.2 as my C drive, and a 1T Samsung SSD for backup, and a 2T WD 7200rpm mechanical HDD for storage.
Usually using auto overclock software doesn't create these problems unless you had a hardware weakness somewhere in the setup. Usually disabling the auto overclock straightens everything back out, but to be sure you may need to do a hard clear of the CMOS settings, look in your M/B manual to see how to do it. Make sure your wall power is pulled when you do the procedure.
