Use the Windows 10 USB installer to upgrade your second PC.
I'm working on improving an older laptop for someone else—adding double RAM and swapping the optical drive for an SSD. I'm wondering if a Windows 10 USB installer, which previously installed Windows 7 cleanly, can be used to upgrade from 7 to 10. I also recall hearing about free upgrade methods on the official Windows site.
Certainly, any installation disk can be used multiple times as required.
According to my understanding, you have the freedom to use the product key from your existing PC. I’m not sure if Windows 10 will automatically recognize and enable it.
I faced a comparable situation with an ASUS netbook that came with Windows Vista but received a free upgrade to Windows 10. A few months later, when the free upgrade stopped, I needed to reinstall Windows 10 and it wouldn’t upgrade automatically. I contacted ASUS, who provided me with a Windows 10 key on the same day.
I reached out to the laptop maker and acted confused, assuming the Windows 10 license would be free since it’s likely a low cost. They should agree to help if you simply ask.
