Use the Windows 10 update option to install only necessary drivers.
You’re looking for a way to install drivers solely through the Windows Update process without being automatically pulled into additional updates or forced installations of unrelated software. It’s a tricky situation where the system defaults to downloading everything at once, even if you don’t want it. There’s no built-in option in Windows 10 to isolate driver updates from other changes, but you can try using third-party tools or manual methods to manage this better.
In the Windows Update section, beneath the "Search for updates" option there is a link labeled "Display optional updates." The drivers are grouped into their own list, allowing you to choose which ones to install.
In the Windows update panel you need to click RESUME UPDATES to proceed. This will begin downloading and installing updates, which may include unnecessary changes like a newer Windows version. Could you share a screenshot for better clarity?
This highlights a Dutch-language resource, though the highlighted black link is prominent. The updated Windows 21H2 release requires authorization to install. It’s unclear if your current setup will become unsupported soon. What makes you think you don’t need these updates?
I don’t have that choice there as yours does. It seems likely because I need to start the RESUME updates first, but doing so triggers downloads and installations. 2. any changes to my Windows will affect installed software, particularly with other versions (I’ve tested before). These programs are meant for large industrial machines and only function with specific Windows, .NET Framework, C++ settings, etc. 3. there needs to be a solution. I think I’ve seen a video long ago showing someone modifying gpedit.msc to restrict updates to certain types.
It should be mentioned that "Optional Updates" could refer to earlier versions than those already installed. Windows Update indicates: "If you encounter a particular issue, one of these drivers might assist." Make sure the drivers referenced are outside this discussion. On Windows 11, the information becomes more explicit with the added note. "In any case, automatic updates will ensure your drivers remain current" The older versions exist because they were proven effective for most users. The newer ones were recently uploaded to the servers by manufacturers and haven't had sufficient time to identify any problems.
What I'm discussing is the possibility of an optional update.
