It's a decent machine compared to recent times, though it should work on macOS Catalina without issues. Based on my experience, Catalina often performs just as well or even better than Mojave on older hardware. You might consider updating it to a newer version if needed. Additionally, both Linux and Windows can run on such devices, so those are viable alternatives.

You can set up Ubuntu on your device. Based on my observations, this works well with older systems.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking, but have to make the most of what I have at the moment. I'll think about updating to Catalina. Been doing well so far with Mojave, apart from the application issues. Will probably give it a try if I hit another road block. With windows I have MacOs setup already, and would like to experience Mac for now. Will get a full PC in the future, hopefully.

This sounds like a solid choice, though I’d prefer avoiding the hassle of Linux. It’s definitely improved over the past, but I’m planning to use it regularly and wouldn’t want to deal with frequent issues. My Linux knowledge is limited to a few public computers from my college days.

Previously I tried Mint 19 on two 2011 MacBook Pros. The performance wasn’t great. It functioned mostly, but power settings were problematic. I likely got less than half the battery life compared to macOS. The system stayed extremely hot and eventually damaged both batteries completely. Now I’m using Mint 20 on a Mac Pro, which runs smoothly and handles full workloads without overheating.

They now possess OCLP for Ventura, which can be patched and tested. It performs well on order-related tasks.

Ubuntu is a good choice, but many won't try it.

Install powertop and Intel PowerSaving utilities to optimize laptop battery performance. The ArchWiki offers numerous resources on power management applicable to any distribution. Since most distros follow a standardized approach, fine-tuning certain settings is necessary to achieve optimal results.

Propose trying the latest version independently.
