Use the 32-bit Windows key during the 64-bit installation process.
Use the 32-bit Windows key during the 64-bit installation process.
I’m getting ready to set up a new system and need a fresh Windows license. I checked Amazon and found a 32-bit copy of Windows 7 for around $85, and a 64-bit version for about $100. I also have another Windows 7 Home Premium installation that includes both versions. Can I use the key from the 32-bit copy with the 64-bit disk I already own? I understand it won’t work unless they’re the same edition, but I’m not sure if that means Home Premium and Professional are compatible. Thanks for your assistance.
It should function properly with Windows 7 Home Premium as the license. The 64-bit architecture doesn’t change the product itself. Ensure that if it’s an OEM key, you’re using either 32-bit or 64-bit versions. OEM copies are typically limited to a single disk, so a 32-bit Windows 7 OEM should only work on a 32-bit system.
It won't function properly. You can't apply a 32-bit key to it. Also, your Windows 7 drive only allows the key to be used once for 32-bit and once for 64-bit, though I'm not certain from my experience.

This will not function. A 64-bit key is required, but a 32-bit installation isn't supported.
