Hi everyone. I just watched a YouTube video explaining how some CPUs can be overclocked using CCX and Core-specific settings, especially on the Dark Hero MoBo board. I’m not sure what all those terms mean, and I’m wondering if there are any guides that could help. I don’t own the Crossahair Hero VIII non-Dark model, but I’ve done manual OC before—currently set at 1.25V and a 42x multiplier, everything works fine. Could adjusting per-core settings really improve performance? Is it worth experimenting with this approach?

Seriously, skip the CPU OC—it's been inactive for a while and won't help on newer systems. Stick with 1.25 or 1.3v and check the best frequency you can get. Prioritize RAM over CPU OC since it won’t boost performance much.

The best performance comes from 1.25 V at 4.2 GHz across all cores. Higher speeds like 4.3 GHz caused crashes even when using CB.

Also consider 1.3 or 1.35. Your CPU's efficiency peak might be near those voltages. The E8400 reaches about 4.3 at 1.34V, which is its main efficiency point, while 4.4 likely requires around 1.42 to 1.45V.

I own a 3900X and honestly, I've never felt the urge to push it beyond its limits. It runs smoothly without any need for tweaking. While you could technically boost some performance by overclocking all cores, the gains are usually minimal—around 10 percent at most. More often than not, you'll hit restrictions on single-threaded or limited-threaded speeds, and I wouldn't consider it worthwhile. "I'm not sure what this means and I don't know how to do it either." If you're unsure, just avoid it. Any improvement you see would likely be insignificant, and could even harm the components. The 3000 series offers very little overclocking potential, while the 5000 series has a bit more, but these chips are already fast enough at default settings.

oh okay.I agree with it.I won't bother...it's just I'm bored and my OCD tells me I need to squeeze every 1% of performance out of it. What are your temps,idle and lets say when running Cinebench r23?

The boost frequency is 4.6GHz, making it unlikely to be beneficial for running at 4.2GHz in most scenarios.

I run the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU cooler. Idle temperatures vary about 35 to 40 degrees Celsius based on room conditions. During Cinebench R23 runs, temperatures stay near 76 degrees Celsius.
