Hey there, I see you're looking into using a router in your basement. Can you check if you have an Ethernet port that connects to the internet via a wired connection instead of the DSL RJ plug? Let me know if you need more guidance, Thomas.

It could function as a standard network switch. Connect three computers to the four yellow ports, then link one of those ports to your router or cable modem. A regular gigabit switch with five to eight ports is more affordable, and wireless routers are also budget-friendly. It would be better to choose a device that supports higher speeds beyond 100 Mbps.

I'm a beginner in networking but wanted to assist. I came across a video about converting a LAN port to a WAN port—though I'm not sure if it's the right approach. The comments seem balanced, so you might want to give it a try.

Even though many recommendations apply, the outcome hinges on the device's software... Because each program is tailored to that specific gadget, it's difficult to generalize. However, the advice shared should function as long as the system supports it.

Unfortunately, my router doesn't work with the Open WRT software.
