This discussion isn't related to hackintosh assistance. I'm seeking solutions for moving from a 128GB SSD to a 500GB SSD. As someone using a hackintosh, I can run Windows tools, but this thread isn't about that. My issue is that none of the mirroring programs I've tried work well with HFS drives (Mac's file system). Anyone have ideas for software that can copy all three partitions—EFI (fat 32), Recovery, and the main SSD partition—correctly via a bootable CD? I need something fast, block-by-block, and available on a CD so I can restore everything to a new drive. Previously, there was a free option I can't recall anymore. Perfect requirements: free, fast, bootable CD, works with mac. Thanks!

You're not allowed to use dd here. If you don't need to lock the thread, just skip the hackintosh reference.

I understand, I’m new to using dd except for copying commands. I’m just looking for the simplest approach. For the locked thread, I know it’s okay to mention because drive behavior can vary, but I’m mainly after a good OS X option. If you have any experience with DD, feel free to assist. The goal was to create an image of the drive and restore it, since most Windows methods don’t work well and finding a bootable OS X CD is difficult.

I'll try it out, I didn't expect to start Linux... It's been a tough day. Cheers!

I need to know your goal clearly. Are you looking to duplicate the drive and its partitions once, or set up continuous real-time mirroring like RAID1? Let me understand so I can provide the right solution.

You need to start a running CD to create a duplicate of the operating system drive, or connect it to another machine.

It's essentially a bootable CD used to clone a drive so you can restore it to a larger SSD using the same CD. Most Windows versions I've tested struggle with proper HFS partition recovery. I won't rely on Linux tools like DD, but I'll try it anyway.

Have you explored CloneZilla? It’s the tool I rely on for backing up my drives. I usually make a "Device-to-image" clone, saving the result to a secondary SSD so I can keep using it elsewhere. Online searches have mentioned HFS+ file systems for compatibility, but nothing about HFS itself—probably it will still function, since I didn’t spend over 30 seconds looking.

They seem quite similar, though using + can be a bit more challenging (especially since all my HFS partitions use HFS+) – I’ll check it out, thanks!
