I faced the same issue with my laptop (black screen). I attempted to boot from an Ubuntu live USB, which successfully restored all my data. If you can reach the device’s BIOS, it might help you try that method again.
He has already said the screen is black he can't do anything . If it was his HDD rather than MB or memory or some such the computer would POST but it wont.
