We recently bought old Mac laptops just to explore OS X and get comfortable with it. We want to message each other for convenience, but since we’re both new to macOS, we’re unsure how to do it. I’ve learned how to message someone else by adding their iPhone number, but neither of us has another Apple device. Can we still reach another Apple computer through iMessage?
Consider alternatives like Discord, Slack, or IRC platforms such as LimeChat. Agree to join an IRC network (e.g., Underthe) and create a dedicated channel for your use. You can also explore Riot.im and similar sites: https://about.riot.im. Use their free public servers to connect and exchange data.
You can access the contact if you use the email linked to the person’s Apple ID. Ensure both have their email turned on for iMessage, which is usually enabled by default, and then send messages using each other’s iCloud address.
We were aiming to exchange messages directly for ease of communication. I provided suitable options instead of using "imessage."
