I own a 2010 HP Probook with a faulty battery. I'm considering purchasing an external laptop battery or power bank to replace the internal one. Since the laptop battery is removable, could using an external power source instead of the power brick make the device more portable?

You might be able to, but a suitable alternative would probably be more expensive than just swapping the battery initially.

You'd have to find a power bank that has an AC output and use the laptop's AC adapter, since no power bank will provide any (safe) connection directly into the laptop of this vintage.
And also you have the disadvantage of not knowing how much battery life you have left unless the battery bank has an always-on display or something.

What model do you have? These are sold in large quantities to companies, which means there are many aftermarket batteries on the market. We've been using Probooks for years. We had an old Windows XP computer in the lab, and I replaced its battery with a new one from Amazon for about $25. It's functioning adequately so far. Most Amazon batteries cost between $20 and $40, depending on the laptop.

I own a probook 6450b and verified they are available on Amazon for 30USD in my region. I think purchasing this way might be more practical, as the laptop battery pack appears to be too demanding both in terms of effort and cost.

This was my second rental laptop from the company, while mine was the 6550b model featuring a 15-inch display.

They appear quite common among businesses, I think mine comes from a family friend who managed to retain his old work laptop. It was discovered at the bottom of a stack of cables and outdated devices.
