You tried and what happened? You need to format the disk in HFS or Fat 32 to make it work right on a Mac Also, there is a folder with the photos in it on the Mac, it works like OneDrive except it goes to iCloud.
It’s more efficient to configure a network share and utilize the network for file transfers. Purchasing a drive isn’t necessary if you’re only saving images once.
