I believe a USB WiFi adapter would complement the gaming router nicely. It should support the 802.11ax standard for better performance.

You're asking why someone would need a USB WiFi adapter paired with an overpowered router when a PCIe device could deliver more performance. A simpler, more affordable option is using a long Ethernet cable. What speed does your internet service provider offer? If you can connect directly to them through your existing router, that should work just fine.

I'm seeing 50 Mbps download and 40 upload with a ping of 40. I'm aiming for 200 Mbps download, higher upload, and lower ping. Also, do you mean a network card when you say pcie?

Are you asking if this setup is distinct from the WiFi adapter you previously selected?
