USB Hell: Why are there so many duplicate entries in Device Manager? (Windows 10)
USB Hell: Why are there so many duplicate entries in Device Manager? (Windows 10)
Facing sluggish 3.0 transfer speeds across every troubleshooting attempt, I considered uninstalling and reinstalling the 3.0eXtesible version. But then came this major issue. I’m unsure what to do or why it’s happening. Right now, my USB ports are busy with a phone charger, steering wheel, printer, and mouse (2.0), plus a 3.0 2TB USB HDD.
There are many internal components moving through the chipset and motherboard, but they usually don’t affect performance or latency enough to notice. I haven’t seen a "Generic Superspeed USB Hub" either. Have you installed the chipset driver for your motherboard? Make sure in the BIOS that your USB ports are configured for USB 3 speeds, not older standards. A mechanical external HDD will never fully utilize a USB 3 port. You didn’t mention the speeds you were experiencing—especially with small files, it’s likely below USB 2.0 performance.
Thanks for your feedback. It seems the setup might not be working as expected. You mentioned USB ports are functional but performance issues occur, like slow copying speeds. The Mobo model appears to support USB3 at 78LMT, but sometimes transfer rates drop significantly. The driver updates don’t seem to resolve the problem. Consider checking the device manager or contacting Gigabyte support for further assistance.
Have you noticed speeds above 43MB/s when copying big files? Yes, it surpasses USB 2.0 capabilities. I’d anticipate around 100 MB/s from a mechanical drive in sequential mode. Don’t rely on Windows without knowing the newest driver. Obtain it straight from Gigabyte: https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/...iver-usb30
Windows Update doesn't retrieve drivers from manufacturer sites. It only delivers the ones they provide directly to users. Certain manufacturers don't upload their drivers to Windows Update. The reason for this isn't clear—some release drivers themselves, while others post them online and later forward them to Microsoft after additional checks. This process can cause delays, especially since newer drivers often become outdated quickly.
Thanks for the clarification. You're highlighting the differences between the versions and noting some performance trends. It seems everything is current based on your checks. The USB Root Hub 3.0 was indeed released around late 2021, and the speed improvements you mentioned are consistent with typical updates. Your observations about file sizes and transfer speeds are accurate. Let me know if you need anything else!
