It seems the system may have halted unexpectedly, possibly due to a recent failure.

Hello, I tried this with another USB as well and stopped the Rufus setup, but somehow the drive worked again the next day. Later it stopped completely. I can’t even open the drive or volume—it just shows as a removable disk without any media. There’s no volume option, so I can’t even right-click to format it. I’m looking for a fix and hope there’s a solution. I think the issue is with the hardware, not Rufus itself. Thanks for the advice—I’m trying to figure it out and will give it another shot if I find something.

Create a bootable USB with Linux, verify its presence, and if successful, back it up or format it. If the drive appears faulty, it may be dead.

I understand the issue isn't reading the USB on your PC. The picture you mentioned might help clarify what's happening, but it seems unclear. If the USB isn't showing up or displaying anything, there could be a problem with the connection or driver. Let me know how you'd like to proceed!

USB flash drives seem like short-lived items, particularly the smaller 32 GB models used for installing operating systems. Their worth was mainly in the data they held, which is now either gone or safely backed up. Get your friend a similar-sized replacement.
