Dongle required an OS update from EDM issue resolved. Ordered a USB 2.5 Gbit Ethernet adapter for my NAS. Verified compatibility. Placed it on one of the USB 2.1 ports on the NAS, but registration failed. Need guidance on enabling and using it. Photo reference: NAS details as shown, Asustor 8 bay 4x 1Gbit ports, 2 USB 2.1 ports, 2 USB 2 ports adapter made by Asustor for NAS.

Did you mean USB 3? USB 2 will be slower than gigabit. Can you set a static IP for the interface? How does it get assigned an IP?

Are you attempting to enhance a typical gigabit router with two USB ports—possibly expecting USB 3.1? That would not be an upgrade, as it lacks USB 3.1 support. I suspect connecting a USB device to an Ethernet adapter on the router without proper drivers or kernel compatibility is unlikely to succeed. These ports are probably intended for LTE modems or storage solutions rather than general networking tasks.

You're facing an issue where the NAS connection isn't properly assigning IP addresses, even though it seems uninitialized.

The only purpose I discovered them for was running the laptop cooling pad attached to the router
