I’m facing a problem where my devices frequently disconnect or behave erratically when connected to any USB hub, regardless of the power source. For instance, keyboards tend to repeat characters until another key is pressed, and external drives sometimes fail to appear during file transfers.

I’ve experimented with various hubs, but none seem to resolve the issue consistently. The back panel of my PC lacks sufficient ports, and I need a method to control devices via the power button on the hub. My system runs Windows 10 with 5950x, 3090, Aorus Xtreme x570, and 128GB RAM at 3600 MHz. Only SSDs are supported, though there’s limited free space on my main drive (just about 10%). I’m using a 2 nm drive on m.2 and two SATA SSDs.

I’ve tried multiple hubs, but not leaving one off works. Some hubs have been known to cause problems, and I’ve noticed occasional dropouts when using certain peripherals like gaming or Cubase. I’ve attempted firmware updates for my keyboard and replaced cables and hubs, yet the issue persists.

Other factors that might be involved include bandwidth constraints due to multiple devices, potential interference from cables in my desk tray, and issues with USB selective suspend or device management settings. I’ve disabled those settings and even updated the AMD chipset driver.

Additionally, a DAC connected to the same hub hasn’t caused problems. The issue appears more pronounced during screen sharing or recording with OBS, and overall system resource usage remains low. There’s also a concern about power cables and adapters in my cable tray possibly affecting performance.

I’m open to suggestions but prefer not to wipe or reinstall everything just yet. This situation is becoming increasingly frustrating for me.

only one hub is being used for testing.
update the BIOS of the motherboard.
which power supply are you using?

I'll disconnect my second USB hub, though most of the time I encounter the problem—everything on that hub seems powered down.
I plan to update this next week; I suspect my motherboard has several revisions, so I might have to open the case and locate a specific revision number to identify the correct file.
Power supply is a Corsair AX1000.

Third generation Ryzen chipsets may encounter USB issues. Consider these steps:
- Update the motherboard BIOS
- Set PCIE to 3.0 only
- Disable global c-states
Search for “AMD B550 X570 USB problems” – there are many documented cases.

Wow, I didn't even consider checking the chipset+USB issues beforehand, honestly. Knowing it's well-documented gives me peace of mind.
I'll share my thoughts soon.

The problem was connected to the x570 chipset issues from a few years back.
I upgraded to the newest firmware version (F37) via Gigabyte's bios update utility (
@bios
). No additional adjustments were made, and the issue has stopped happening.
