They really messed up the USB standard, creating a lot of confusion. Yes, the components you mentioned should function, but be sure no other device uses that header when you're using your headset.

I plan to use a 2.0 splitter and connect the board via its back USB port. This will boost front USB speeds, though I’ll keep the front port as USB 3.0. If needed, I can also get an adapter from USB 3.0 to USB C for the front port. Thanks!

If USB 2.0 speeds work for you, it's okay. Using a hub isn't the best idea.
