USB 2 to thunderbolt
USB 2 to thunderbolt
Hello: does my subject question make sense? I have a fully functional old DVD r/w external drive connected via USB 2 only output port. I want to use it on my new Alder Lake laptop with Thunderbolt, and possibly a USB-C separate port (though I don't know yet). I'm worried about overheating and other problems between USB 2 and USB-C. Please let me know.
it should function properly if the new laptop locates the driver for the dvd drive. I haven't encountered this before. Where did you come across this information?
USB-C is assured to work with USB 2.0, simply connect it to whatever the DVD drive requires. There should be no complications. I've tested many non-USB-C gadgets with USB-C and experienced no problems.
Except for drives designed differently from previous generations, most portable devices follow a common USB standard, eliminating the need to search for compatible drivers.
On the overheating... I recall asking about using a cable adapter USB C to USB 2 to connect to my A/C wall charger, so I could use my old charger with the new phone. They warned me about that (heating). Tx for advice, y'all. I’ll buy an adapter and try it out.
