I'm working on Planet Zoo at 1440p ultra with the following configuration: GPU - AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D RAM - G.SKILL 32GB KIT DDR5 6000MHz CL30 Trident Z5 NEO AMD EXPO MB - MSI PRO B650-S WIFI PS - EVGA 850 GQ Power Supply SSD - Samsung 990 PRO 2TB Cooler - Noctua NH-D15S Monitor - 27" HP OMEN 27q BIOS - American Megatrends International, LLC. 1.E0, 11.06.2024 OS - 64bit / Microsoft Windows 11 Home My problem is that when the game is paused I see 80fps and when it's running I get 40fps. Now, my zoo isn't small so I don't expect unrealistic fps, but if my frame rate stays low, why am I not reaching full performance on either GPU or CPU? It reaches 100% in some cases, like BG3. I've noticed the CPU hits 100% only during benchmarking in Cinebench. To monitor usage I used AMD Adrenalin (second picture). I previously owned an NVIDIA laptop and PZ ran poorly; for fairness, the game shows occasional lag on my PC, which is acceptable. Still, I'm puzzled as to why it doesn't reach maximum performance. The GPU seems fine since switching from 1440p to 1080p doesn't affect FPS. Graphics settings don't seem to impact CPU usage either. I've tested the CPU in Cinebench R24 and got these results: 1037 - Multi; 108 - Single. The temperatures in Planet Zoo are around 65-70°C for the CPU. I've updated all drivers, installed AMD Ryzen Master and enabled AutoOC. I refreshed the drivers via MSI Center and again through the AMD website for the GPU. I thought only a few cores were being maxed, but that doesn't seem to be the case? I checked other forums and believe the issue might be a CPU bottleneck, yet the numbers don't support it? I'm not sure what's going on. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
When the GPU isn't operating at full capacity, the CPU is likely the bottleneck, even if it's not at 100%. You might experience CPU limitations without reaching 100% utilization on a single thread. Typically, performance drops near 100%, but certain scenarios can cause CPU or RAM constraints independently. This video helps determine whether your performance is constrained by the CPU or GPU: reduced resolution doesn't affect results strongly suggests CPU limitation. I have no specific knowledge about Planet Zoo's optimization, but generally, city and park-building titles become very CPU-intensive with expansive maps and numerous elements.
Ensure high performance settings are active or avoid efficiency mode entirely.
It clearly shows the CPU constraints because the GPU usage stays well under the required frame rate.
