That's the issue, you definitely need an SSD. Also consider checking HDD Smart Data using tools like CrystalDiskInfo.

In my experience, Windows 10 appears to avoid HDDs now. My previous laptop followed the same pattern until I upgraded to an SSD.

Consider moving your operating system to an SSD while keeping HDD for media like movies and games. There are several reasons this might happen, from software such as Skype to storage driver configurations, and there isn't an immediate fix. I recommend tackling each situation step by step, jotting down what helps and what doesn't. A useful resource is the article on partitionwizard about disk usage in Windows 10. Good luck! I’ve faced this issue before—it turned out to be a downloaded program, and removing it resolved the problem.

All laptops running Windows 10 with a 5400rpm hard drive should be replaced with an SSD or at least a 7200rpm one.

Already purchased an SSD, just preparing to install the full Windows setup. Currently on Insider pre-release, with my build number confirmed.
